World Congress of AIMS
One of the hallmark events of AIMS is its World Congress, a biennial gathering hosted in conjunction with member races. This gathering serves as a platform for members to converge, exchange ideas, and celebrate advancements in marathon and long-distance running.
Over the course of approximately three days, attendees participate in informative presentations, receive updates from the Board of Directors, and honor outstanding contributions through the AIMS Awards ceremony. The host city for each World Congress is determined through a democratic election process.
2020
The 23rd World Congress of AIMS that was to be held in Batumi, Georgia was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and a decision was made by the Board of Directors in 2021 to hold the next 23rd World Congress during the Osaka Marathon in 2023.
2023
The two-day World Congress of AIMS titled “Creating the Running Future” was held in Osaka from February 23 to 25, 2023. The Belgrade Marathon, led by director Darko Habuš, had the honor of attending this event as a member of AIMS and exchanging experiences with directors of the world’s largest marathons.
This has become an event of great importance for the city which be held again in Japan after 40 years, with more than a million spectators. Discussions focused on the post-COVID period and ways to cope with a reduced number of runners.
